"Computer programming is the process of designing, writing, testing, debugging/ troubleshooting, and maintaining the source code or computer programs. This source code is written in a programming language. But, the main purpose of programming is to create a program that exhibits a certain desired behaviour. The process of writing source code often requires expertise in many different subjects, including knowledge of the application domain, specialized algorithms and formal logic." (Wikipedia, 2011)
Whatever the approach to software development may be, the final program must satisfy some fundamental properties such as: efficency, performance, reliability, usability, portability, maintainability among other properties. However, as users it's not necessary to know all of the probramming process perfectly, I mean, the experts are the responsibles of giving us the best service possible to satisfy our needs.
But what if we are applying for a job at a Computer Software Company? Is it necessary to have knowledge and be prepared for all these "programming subjects"? What do you think?
Your next individual practice is to click on the "links Bar" the Randall's ESL Lab page on this blog; then go to the Title "General Listening Quizzes". After that, select the listening: "World of Computers" which is in the bottom of the "medium" level. Have a paper and pencil.
Do the three exercises on line:
